Meet Chelsey Chichak

Chelsey Chichak is a Speech-Language Pathologist and the Founder and Director of Mainland Speech Language Pathology Inc. With over 15 years of clinical experience, she has developed a specialized practice focused on early intervention, complex communication, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), assistive technology, and medico-legal speech-language pathology assessments.

Although Chelsey has developed extensive expertise in medico-legal assessment and consultation, her passion has always been working directly with children and their families. She continues to maintain an active clinical caseload, providing assessment, consultation, and intervention for children with a wide range of communication needs. She believes that the most meaningful therapy occurs when families, educators, and professionals work together to support communication across everyday environments.

Chelsey has a particular interest in supporting children with complex communication needs. She has extensive experience assessing and implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, including speech-generating devices, eye-gaze technology, and alternative access methods. As a certified TouchChat Trainer, she enjoys empowering families, educators, and therapy teams to build confidence using AAC in meaningful, everyday interactions.

In addition to her clinical practice, Chelsey provides independent medico-legal speech-language pathology assessments throughout British Columbia and accepts referrals across Canada. Her reports address the functional impact of communication disorders, future communication needs, AAC, assistive technology, educational supports, and long-term speech-language pathology recommendations. She is committed to providing objective, evidence-based opinions that assist legal professionals, insurers, and future care planners in understanding the lifelong impact of communication disabilities.

Chelsey is passionate about advancing the profession through leadership, education, and mentorship. She currently serves as Past President of Speech and Hearing BC after previously serving as Director of Early Intervention, Vice President, and President. She is also Clinical Faculty with the University of British Columbia, where she supervises and mentors graduate student clinicians.

Outside of her clinical practice, Chelsey enjoys spending time with her family and horses. She has a special interest in incorporating equine movement into speech and language intervention through hippotherapy and values opportunities to bring therapy into natural environments where children feel engaged, confident, and successful.

Whether she is helping a toddler say their first words, supporting an AAC user to communicate independently, or providing an objective opinion in a medico-legal matter, Chelsey believes that effective communication has the power to transform lives. Her goal is always the same: to provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps individuals reach their fullest communication potential.
